mssql_connect() baut eine Verbindung zu einem MS SQL Server auf.
Die Verbindung zum Server wird geschlossen, sobald die Ausführung des Skripts abgeschlossen ist, wenn sie nicht schon vorher durch einen expliziten Aufruf von mssql_close() geschlossen wurde.

Falls mssql_connect() zum zweiten Mal mit denselben Argumenten aufgerufen wird, wird keine neue Verbindung aufgebaut, sondern stattdessen die Verbindungskennung der bereits bestehenden Verbindung zurückgegeben. Mit diesem Parameter wird dieses Verhalten geändert, sodass mssql_connect() immer eine neue Verbindung aufbaut, auch wenn mssql_connect() zuvor schon mit denselben Parameter aufgerufen wurde.
Gibt bei Erfolg eine MS SQL Verbindungskennung oder bei Auftreten eines Fehlers FALSE zurück.
