N : Keine Daten mehr
W : Warnung
? : undefiniert
Falls anstelle des Zeichens "x" etwas anderes als ein Leerzeichen angezeigt wird, beschreiben SQLSTATE und SQLCODE den Fehler genauer.

Die Funktion gibt einen String zurück, der in einem Zeichen einen allgemeinen Status der Abfrage zurückgibt, und die Zustände von SQLSTATE und SQLCODE, die mit der letzten ausgeführten Abfrage verknüpft sind. Das Format dieses Strings ist: "(char) [SQLSTATE=(zwei Ziffern) (drei Ziffern) SQLCODE=(eine Ziffer)]".
